# Members and roles (/organization/members-and-roles)

Ciele is built for teams. You invite people to your organization as members, and
each member has a role that controls what they can see and change. You manage this
from the members settings of your organization.

## Invite a member [#invite-a-member]

1. Open the members settings for your organization.
2. Invite a new member by entering their email address.
3. Choose the role they should have.
4. Send the invitation.

The person receives an invitation to join your organization. Once they accept, they
appear in your member list with the role you assigned.

## Roles [#roles]

Roles range from full control to view only access. In broad terms:

* An owner or admin level role can manage the organization, its members, and its
  assistants.
* An editor level role can build and change assistants without managing the
  organization itself.
* A viewer level role can see the workspace without making changes.

Assign the least access that lets each person do their job. You can change a
member's role later as their responsibilities change.

## Manage existing members [#manage-existing-members]

From the member list you can review who belongs to your organization, change a
member's role, and remove access when someone no longer needs it. Managing members
and roles is permission gated, so only members with the right role can view and
change the roster.

<Callout title="Right sized access">
Give new teammates an editor or viewer role by default, and reserve owner and admin
roles for the people who genuinely need to manage the organization.
