# General settings (/assistants/general-settings) The General section defines who the assistant is and how it presents itself. Open an assistant, then select **General** in the setup rail. ## Identity [#identity] * **Assistant title** is the name of the assistant. * **Nickname** is the short name shown in the widget header, where visitors see it. * **Description** explains the assistant's purpose. Keep it clear and concise. ## Welcome message [#welcome-message] The welcome message is the first thing a visitor reads when they open the chat. You write it in a rich text editor, so you can use bold, italics, headings, lists, quotes, and links. Use it to set expectations: what the assistant can help with, and how to get to a human if needed. ## AI disclaimer [#ai-disclaimer] The disclaimer appears under the assistant's answers. Use it to remind visitors that responses are generated by AI and to point them to authoritative sources when accuracy matters. ## Answering style [#answering-style] The answering style is a free text guide to tone and format. Describe how you want the assistant to sound and structure its replies, for example short and friendly, or formal and thorough. This guidance is applied on top of the platform's own instructions, so it shapes every generated answer without overriding safety rules. Fixed messages you set in a Flow are shown word for word. The answering style only affects answers the assistant generates, such as those produced when it searches your knowledge. See [Flow actions](/flows/actions). ## Starter buttons [#starter-buttons] Starter buttons are quick replies shown at the start of a conversation. They give visitors an easy way in. Each button has a type that decides what it does. See [Starter buttons](/assistants/quick-replies) for the full setup. ## Conversation options [#conversation-options] The Configuration group holds toggles that change the chat experience. Depending on your setup these can include the chat window language, a progress view that rewrites the assistant's thinking into short, readable updates, and other behaviors. Turn on only what your visitors will benefit from, and confirm each one in the live preview. ## The chat launcher [#the-chat-launcher] The **Enable chat launcher** toggle controls whether the floating chat button appears. Turn it off if you plan to open the assistant in another way, such as from your own button, and turn it on for the standard floating widget.
